Oak beams can be ordered in lengths up to and including 6.0mtr.
Green Timber
Green Oak is cut from trees felled within 18 months and is ideal for outdoor projects, or indoor use where the oak’s high shrinkage value won’t be an issue. With a moisture content of around 50%-80% freshly sawn oak is far easier to work with than when in its hardened, dried state.
When air dried outside, oak will weather to a silvery grey colour and inside the timber will form its distinctive surface cracks.
Kiln Dried Oak Beams
We force dry our oak beams in our onsite kiln, to ensure a low moisture content, ideal for projects where movement and shrinkage can become an issue.
Dried oak is an ideal timber for heavy structural use or projects where durability is important, such as flooring and furniture.
Waney edge cladding is sawn from the round of the tree so that the natural barked edge of the timber is preserved. Ideal for exterior uses such as wall cladding, fencing etc.
Larch, Cedar and Douglas Fir are tough, hard-wearing timbers that don’t require treating and can last around 25 years, which makes them a popular choice for this application. We can facilitate requests, including oak cladding.
Each board has one waney edge (with bark on) and one square, sawn edge.
We use external couriers to deliver timber across the UK to ensure your order arrives with you as soon as possible. We’re happy for customers to arrange their own transport for orders.
Whilst we don’t allow drop-ins at the sawmill, we welcome pre-arranged collection of orders, Monday – Friday 8am-4pm.
